This week Meet Cleaver Theatre (the Pandoracon Edition) is bringing you another of Butch R. Cleaver’s top 10 sci-fi classics of all time!
You’ll never guess, but it’s from the 70s as well. It’s 1973′s eco-sci-fi classic : Soylent Green!
In an overpopulated futuristic Earth, a New York police detective finds himself marked for murder by government agents when he gets too close to a bizarre state secret involving the origins of a revolutionary and needed new foodstuff. The future is a very grim, very hot place. It seems the goverments of the world are running out of money, time and solutions. It’s a chilling look at what could happen if corporations become the government (not that anything like that could possibly happen…). And it features one of the most imporatant and beautiful death scenes in all of the sci-fi canon. And it has a stellar cast to boot, including: Charlton Heston, Edward G. Robinson, Chuck Connors, Brock Peters, Dick Van Patton and more!
Some find it bleak…I find it beautiful! See what you think!
Are you digging the space weirdness? If you’re a fan of these shorts, why not follow the Meet Cleaver Theatre page on Facebook? You’ll find these episodes a ton more reviews from the past…everything from sci-fi to horror to exploitation! More crazy trailers, more stupifying commercials, even some music videos…
If you’re just digging the sci-fi and haven’t followed Pandoracon’s facebook page yet, you can find that here.
